Domain Names & Domain Name Servers

Our agent websites can be accessed in several ways—you can click Agents at the corporate website, your office website, or type www.username.bhhsnw.com in the web browser field.

There is also the option of creating one or more custom domain names, such as SellMyHome.com or JohnSmith.com. Owning a personal domain name is about the least expensive way an agent can enhance his or her professional online appearance—for about $15-$40 per year.

Here’s how to set up your own domain name:

  1. Visit a website registrar such as GoDaddy.com, Register.com, NetworkSolutions.com, etc. There are many registrars, and some are very competitively priced. Make sure to use a registrar you know will be around for many years, because if your registrar ‘disappears,’ you will need to renew the domain elsewhere.
  2. At the registrar’s opening window, enter what you want as your domain name. It assumes you want .com, but the other extensions are there also (I recommend .com because most people automatically enter that). Click Search.
  3. You will either get Congratulations! XXX is available, or XXX is not available, with suggestions for other names. Experiment until you find one you like that is available. Click Buy It Now and proceed to register the name.

Note: Another option is to have a personal domain name established through Realtor.com using .Realtor as the extension. Go to www.claim.realtor for more information.

Be cautious about buying extra services without verifying you will use them, as you probably only need the domain name.

Next, get your domain name hosted at your agent website. This allows you to use the domain name in an expanded way, such as using it as a direct link to your listing websites, etc. The information below is excerpted from your Agent Access domain section. To reach it:

  1. Open your website, scroll to the bottom and click Agent Access.
  2. Type in your username and password.
  3. At Agent Access hover over Site Builder, slide to Design, then click

At the section, Add Domain, enter your domain name, then click Submit. Next, you need to verify that you have specified the following Domain Name Servers (DNS) where you registered the domain name to the ones specified in Step 2 of the Add Domain section (ignore the numbers, enter only the primary and secondary names [NS1.RELIANCEDNS.NET and NS2.RELIANCEDNS.NET]).

This will involve returning to the registrar’s website, logging into Manage My Account, choosing the option to Manage Domain Names and looking to change to a Custom DNS. Note: If you already own the domain name and are using it as part of a domain email address (ex: info@SellMyHome.com), do not make the change of the DNS without following the email instructions near the bottom of the Add Domains section in your Agent Access account.

Your domain name should connect to your website within two business days, usually much faster (within about eight hours).

If you find you need help, email Reliance Network at support@bhhsnw.com. We can either walk you through the process, or if you provide us access to your registrar’s account, we will connect your domain name to your website for you.
