Marketing Source Codes

Here is a fairly simple way to track the results of specific marketing efforts you do, using Market Source Codes. These are special letters and numbers you attach to your URL/domain name so when someone responds, you know how they reached your web page.

As an example, let’s say you were going to promote a link to instant search results for all the waterfront homes available at Bellevue. First you create and save the search, which provides a URL you can promote that people will use to reach the search results via a single click. By inserting a marketing code at the end of the URL, your website will track how many people clicked the link from each place you marketed it, such as your email signature, your website, and your Facebook page.

Here is how to do it:

  1. When in Agent Access, hover over Site Builder
  2. Slide to Reports then click the Source Tracking button
  3. In the Add Source Code section, enter a short description and the source code for each way you are marketing (in this case you would create source codes for email, website, and Facebook)
  4. Click Create

  1. Description is for your reference only in case you have several source codes active at once
  2. The source code should consist of letters and numbers only
  1. Add the source code, preceded by the appropriate URL/domain name and ‘prefix’ (more on the ‘prefix’ farther down this tip). As examples,
    1. At my email signature the complete domain/URL I would use for a Bellevue SEO search results page would be maryagent.bhhsnwre.com/ bellevue-waterfront-homes.aspx?s=email1
    2. At my website, the complete domain/URL I would use for a Bellevue SEO Search Results Page would be maryagent.bhhsnwre.com/ bellevue-waterfront-homes.aspx?s=website1
    3. At my Facebook page, the complete domain/URL I would use for a Bellevue SEO Search Results Page would be maryagent.bhhsnwre.com/bellevue-waterfront-homes.aspx?s=facebook

The ‘prefix’ is inserted between the end of the normal URL and before the Source Code:

URL                                                                       Prefix           Source Code

www.maryagent.bhhsnwre.com/bellevue-waterfront-homes.aspx      ?s=              facebook

Here is the list of prefixes to use when pointing at:

Website Home Page:         /s=

Website Interior Page:      &s=

Listings:                                 &s=

Searches:                              ?s=

To see how many people clicked on the link from each of your sources to view the search results, return to the Source Tracking button at Site Builder > Reports > Source Tracking and view them at the Marketing Source Report section. The statistics are updated daily. This technique can be used to track responses from any type of online or direct marketing you do!
